How to make a Mermaid CharBOOterie board for your next halloween party!
Every great Halloween party starts with a charBOOterie board! Whether you’re hosting a spooky celebration or attending one, a halloween-themed charcuterie board is the perfect sampler to please all palettes!Â
The Coffin & Skeleton put the BOO in CharBOOterie Board!
Start with a coffin serving platter and a plastic mermaid skeleton that will fit in the casket. You can makeshift your own coffin food platter from some cardboard and aluminum foil. Cut out a coffin shape to fit your skeleton and wrap it in foil for serving. Use tape to secure the foil. Add a 1 to 2 inch wall of cardboard around the perimeter of the tray with hot glue. Reinforce the corners with tape as needed then cover the edges in foil, too.
Place your mermaid skeleton in the Coffin serving platter
Surround the mermaid skeleton with a bed of rosemary, assembled to look like seaweed. This provides a beautiful & fragrant base for everything else!
Create meat roses for the Coffin Charbooterie Board
A proper coffin has to have flowers – salami and pepperoni make perfect meat roses! Fold several thin slices of meat in half around the rim of a champagne glass. After a few layers you can flip the glass upside down to see how the rose is looking. Once you are satisfied with the look, flip the glass upside down and wiggle the salami or pepperoni flower off of the glass. Place it on your board where desired and use your fingers to fluff up the petals. I like to line the top and bottom of the coffin with roses.
Add your Cheeses to your Halloween Charbooterie Board
Possibly the most important part of any charcuterie board: the cheeses! It’s best to mix textures and flavors, as well as cut them into different shapes to add visual dimension. The rich dark colors of the blueberry vanilla goat cheese were perfect for fall! Line the edges of the charcuterie board coffin with crackers for dipping & stacking the meats and cheeses.
Sweeten up your Charcuterie Board with fall colored fruits and berries
Peaches have the perfect fall color palette IMO. I like to slice them and spread them in a small bowl to show off the warm yellow insides and blood red centers. Stuff raspberries into the ribcage of the mermaid skeleton for a gory centerpiece to your spooky char-boo-terie board. Decorate around the salami and pepperoni roses with blackberries to add some dark depth to the florals.
Gummy worms will add a nice touch to the coffin!
Stuff a few gummy worms in the mermaid skeleton and around the coffin for an added creepy crawly effect!Â
Top it off with sweets and nuts!
Chocolate covered pretzels are the perfect sweet and salty snack. Since its halloween, I skipped the nuts and opted for some peanut m&m’s. If you are particular about colors like me, you can even sift out the candies that don’t go with your color palette. I left out the blue m&m’s and the blue gummy worms. Don’t forget the candy corn- it is Halloween after all!
