Ginnie Springs Mermaids

Ginnie Springs is a favorite swimming hole for many Florida mermaids, and a top bucket list item for plenty of out-of-town-mers!

The largest draw of this location is Ginnie’s pristine, crystal clear waters. Most mermaids come to Ginnie Springs and the neighboring Devil’s Springs to swim in the Blue Hole features, to check out the cave systems, or to get a unique & colorful shot where the spring meets the river. I went to Ginnie Springs for the first time in May of 2022 and had the best time exploring all the location had to offer and capturing it all to share with you below. My advice for getting the best photographs & videos here: arrive EARLY as the park gets filled with visitors fast!

#1 Reason Mermaids love Ginnie Springs: The Water Clarity is unbelievable!

As you can see from these videos, Ginnie Springs has some of the clearest blue waters in the US!

Mermaid Jules barrel rolls through Ginnie Springs’ crystal clear blue waters!

On a calm, quiet morning you may see multiple mermaids swimming in the springs!

Here, Mermaid Jules and her mermaid friend, Ms Luna Marie dive underwater, the camera following their bubble trail as they swim beneath a log in the crystal clear shallows. The girls surface on the other side and perch half in the water, on a small island of trees.

This downed tree made the perfect seat for some splashing in solitude!

Mermaid Jules splashes playfully while sitting alone in a blue lagoon, enjoying the peace of her own company.

Just around the River bend: Devil’s Springs Mermaids

The Devil’s Spring System is part of the Ginnie Springs resort complex, and is home to three separate springs: Devil’s Eye, Devil’s Ear and Devil Spring (“Little Devil”).

These springs attract many mermaids for the unique views from each stunning feature! The best part is that this spring system is all within walking (swimming, or paddling) distance of Ginnie Springs and you have full access to these areas once you have paid admission for Ginnie Springs.

Diving into the Devil’s Eye

Devil’s Eye is a round opening, 20 feet across and equally as deep. I challenged myself to swim the entire circumference of the opening & to try lying down at the bottom of the hole!

Mermaid Jules dives into a blue hole at Ginnie Springs known as Devil’s Eye! As she flips her body, the scales of her mythic tail catch the sun and reflect its light.

Rising up from the Devil’s Eye

At the bottom is the entrance to a small, intricately decorated cavern, that I honestly would stay away from unless you are on air. Underwater cavern exploring is extremely dangerous without the proper training and equipment, and I must warn you that people die in these springs every year! I say, enjoy swimming in the hole, and leave the caves to the experts!

Mermaid Jules swims up from the eye of Ginnie Springs. The crystal clear water casts a slight blue hue on everything.

Unique Feature: The Devil’s Ear

Devil’s Ear is a canyon-like opening located where the clear Devil Spring run meets the dark waters of the Santa Fe River. Water gushes from a cave opening with nearly fire-hydrant-like force. Although the water in the Devil’s Ear basin is generally crystal clear, it is common for it to be covered with a thin layer of tannin-stained river water. This phenomenon enables divers to sit in the basin’s clear water and look up as the sun shines through the trees & creates a unique, stained-glass effect in the river water. This view looking up is one of my favorites!!
