Finfolk Productions is a small, woman-owned business specializing in fully swimmable, realistic mermaid tails, tops, accessories, and apparel. Twin sisters Abby & Bryn Roberts founded FinFolk Productions in 2012, and have since provided countless tails for clients worldwide. They were only making tails from silicone in 2014 when I purchased mine, but since 2018 they have began selling realistic fabric mermaid tails. They release a new fabric mermaid tail collection 2-3 times per year and host tail sales and giveaways each release. This post has gathered all of Finfolk Production’s fabric mermaid tail releases in one place so you can easily view and get inspired by their previous mermaid tail designs.

NOV 2017 – The First EVER Finfolk Fabric Tail Release

For the first time ever Finfolk Productions would release fabric mermaid tails: SEVEN colors, THREE full sized fluke choices! Tail sizes ranged from XXS-3XL. This sale was monumental because for the first time, it felt like anyone could be a Finfolk Mermaid. These tails cost significantly less than silicone mermaid tails making them much more accessible to the general public, plus there wasn’t an endless waitlist- you just had to shop early on release day.  This collection was first released at Finfolk’s Black Friday Sale in 2017. It was later re-released in January 2018 & then had it’s inventory clean out sale in Feb 2018.

MAY 2018 – Finfolk Productions’ Summer Tail Sale

Finfolk went OFF for their second mermaid tail line up: this time offering 12 stunningly unique tail designs! They introduced two new fluke designs and a new ‘dragon’ scale design on the aptly named “Dragonheart” mermaid tail. There was something in this collection for every mermaid lover. The Mandarin Gobi was designed based on a fish of the same name, while several other tails were inspired by mermaids in pop culture, including: Ariel’s Dream inspired by ‘The Little Mermaid,’ Neverland Scale inspired by the mermaids from ‘Peter Pan’, Classic Cleo inspired by “H2O Just Add Water” and The Madison inspired by the movie “Splash.” The other tails drew inspo from tropical destinations, as well as, mythological and fantasy creatures, from dragons to fairies to sirens and sea gods! This collection pretty much covers all the biggest mermaid themes and in a way that encompasses every color of the rainbow! The girls really outdid themselves with this collection released in MAY 2018. It was later restocked in July 2018 &  the inventory clear out happened in Sept 2018.

Oct 2018 – Finfolk Productions Siren tail Release

In October of 2018, Finfolk Productions released their first ever spooky mermaid tail collection and they ATE! From the enchanting designs to the perfect names. There are several darker tail designs in this collection for the siren at heart, and the Skeleton tail is such an icon- a perfect mermaid costume for halloween or a haunted mermaid set up!

May 2019 – Finfolk Productions Mermaid Tails Summer Collection

In 2019, Finfolk Productions’ Summer mermaid tail line featured 8 new tail designs inspired by tropical dreams, rainbows, and summer sunshine! This tail collection featured an all new fluke and another game-changer in the fabric mermaid tail industry: FINS! Finfolk offered optional fin upgrades for 3 of tails, in two unique silhouettes.

July 2020

Always innovating, in 2020, Finfolk reveals their all new, made in-house fabric mermaid tails! Now the team can design, print, cut, and sew mermaid tails directly in the Finfolk studio. They began using an ALL NEW, extra soft and stretchy material that makes the tail sizing much more forgiving. One of my favorite changes is the new waistband that lays perfectly flat, as opposed to the old scrunchy version. For this momentous occasion, Finfolk went all out releasing 6 new mermaid tails; 5 of which having extremely intricate spotting, striping, details and patterns.

Sept 2020 – Fall Fabric Tail Line

Finfolk’s Fall fabric line introduced 3 new tails and brought back 3 favorites (now printed clearer, deeper, and more vibrant since Finfolk moved production completely in-house). Here’s how Finfolk described their newest designs: “Sanderson’s Spell is full of warm golds, reds, deep wines, and purples. It has been hand tipped with metallic gold paint that translates almost completely lifelike on the fabric- truly magical! Enchanted Elixir may look a bit familiar, it is a color altered version of the popular Jewel Of Jupiter design, but this time we’ve given it warm pinks and deep jewel tone teals for a mysterious and enchanting feel. The Dark Sea is perfectly named for its lush emerald greens, blacks, and sea foam stripes spraying over the body like a furious windswept sea.”

NOV 2020

What could make Finfolk even cooler? A Team-up of course! And that’s just what they did with their 2020 collection: Finfolk released their FIRST EVER Mermaid Kariel fabric tails, in four gorgeous new designs. These designs included 2 of Kariel’s giant flukes and of course her iconic sea-shell mermaid scales. The tails with butterfly flukes had colors true to Mermaid Kariel’s typical tropical rainbow vibes. The tails with man-o-war flukes had a darker feel to them with rich ocean teals and blues.  Finfolk also released two of their own tails, one inspired by the northern lights the other inspired by a Rainbow Trout.

MAR 2021

The Luna Fluke makes its official fabric tail debut alongside 3 new Mermaid Kariel by Finfolk Tail designs and 2 other Finfolk originals. A new Mermaid Kariel scale design has also entered the chat.

July 2021 Summer Line

6 more designs drop in Summer of 2021, including one with a brand new fluke Finfolk dubbed the “Realistic” fluke. Kariel collabs with Finfolk for a third and final time, introducing 2 new designs in pastel pink and orange. Finfolk revealed another tail inspired by nature: the “Pumpkinseed” which mimics the patterns on a freshwater pond fish with the same name.

Oct 2021 – Siren Sale

Finfolk’s 2021 Siren Sale features 6 fabric mermaid tail designs for spooky season, including several darker patterned tails, a pirate-esque black mermaid tail with gold accents and a jack-o-lantern inspired tail. One design wis based off a sea mollusk called a nautilus. And lastly, the Shoal Green tail makes its return- fitting into the halloween theme as a potential little mermaid costume.

May 2022

Bright vibrant colors of the summer season make their return in the May 2022 Finfolk Fabric tail sale. Two tails feature tropical sunset rainbow vibes with a splashy striping, while another captures a magical summer twilight shade with glowing fairy sparkles. Finfolk releases the first full length side fins for the Birth of Venus tail, which compliment the dorsal perfectly.

Sept 2022 Siren Sale

Spooky purples & green shades grace the next fabric mermaid collection along with warm fall colors. Finfolk introduced jagged side fins for two of the tails in addition to huge hip fins for the lionfish that I just had to have!

MAR 2023 Spring Tails

The 2023 Spring mermaid tails were quite eclectic with no glaring theme. This was another great season for fins, as Finfolk offered multiple placements for these designs.

OCT 2023 Merbella by Finfolk Siren Sale

Then in October of 2023- something MAGICAL of epic proportions happened: THE OFFICIAL MERBELLA BY FINFOLK SIREN SALE.Thats right, Finfolk Productions and Merbella Studios teamed up to bring 4 gorgeous designs to the market. It felt next to impossible to be a Merbella Mermaid before (unless you were lucky enough to score a crown or accessories from one of her sales. But to get a Merbella tail was practically unheard of. This collab made Merbella GORGEOUS designs so much more accessible to the mermaid community and we couldn’t be happier! I’ll let these intricately stunning designs with totally new Merbella Fluke, fin, and scale designs speak for themselves.

July 2024 Merbella x Finfolk Summer Line

After the HUGE success of the first sale, of course Finfolk brought back Merbella for another collab for their Summer 2024 tail release. 4 totally new designs were released, two of which feature all new fluke designs! Once again, these tails featured incredibly intricate designs that look absolutely magical!

April 2024 – Spring Sale

Finfolk’s Spring 2024 draws most of its inspiration from nature. 3 designs were based on these real life fish species: Humphead Wrasse, Koi, & Bluegill Andromeda draws its inspiration from the stars and Malibu is here because its obviously a Barbie Summer!
