“Curse of Cortés” Signature Mermaid Tail Design
Introducing the “Curse of Cortés”- my newest Finfolk Productions fabric mermaid tail! Originally released in the 2022 Fall Siren Sale, this tail has been a fan favorite, making its return in the 2023 Spring Tail Release, and once more as the Tail of the Month in March 2023. Needless to say, I’ve had my eye on this beautiful, dark tail for some time!
So much more than a black mermaid tail, this realistic fabric tail has a rich color palette with deep indigos and magentas shining through the darkest parts. There is so much attention to detail in this tail, from the tips of the scales being gilded in gold to the small white spots that dot the base of the fluke. Finfolk designed this tail with their “darker and edgier, or even piratey” mermaids in mind- and it shows! In Finfolk’s words: “a shadowy black tail with antiqued gold accents and scale tipping.” This tail comes with hip, calf, and dorsal fin upgrade options.
The “Curse of Cortés” signature mermaid tail is a realistic fabric mermaid tail that looks great for photos and events! Like all Finfolk Signature tails, this swimmable mermaid tail is created from 1mm, 4-way stretch scuba knit with sublimation printed designs. These tails are realistically detailed and vibrant; even with the dark- almost black- color palette, the scales appear 3D and give the illusion of depth.
Check out the “Calypso” fluke
The “Curse of Cortés” tail features Finfolk’s “Calypso” fluke! This ‘shaggy’ rounded fluke looks like a cross between their Lorena Fluke design and their Lotus fluke design. The widest point is 30 inches, and Finfolk reminds buyers that the calypso fluke is slightly smaller than other Finfolk flukes and therefore tails featuring this fluke will fit a narrower variety of monofins. Please make sure to compare the dimensions of this tail to any monofins before purchasing.
All signature fabric tails come with a durable vinyl monofin casing built inside of the tail. This hard but flexible vinyl fills out the fabric perfectly so your monofin can be easily slipped inside and secured with velcro straps. I recommend using a monofin with short, stiff blades such as the FINIS Shooter (which I prefer for these larger flukes) or an Adult Mermaid Linden monofin (a strong swimmer may be able to get away with this one). Remember, quality of monofin will affect quality of tail use (AND SAFETY), so don’t be cheap!

The Curse of Cortés design was made available as part of their Fall 2022 Siren Sale collection, Spring 2023 Tail Release, and March 2023 Tail of the Month. Thinking of getting a Signature Finfolk Fabric Tail?
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- This product is to be used with a monofin by proficient swimmers only. Remember: THE MONOFIN IS NOT INCLUDED, but you will NEED one to swim! You can order one on amazon and swap it out between all your fabric tails!
- Check the size chart on Finfolk’s website and have a friend measure you for accuracy. If you are in between sizes, SIZE DOWN.
- Tails with dorsal fins will have a slightly more snug fit.
- Injury or death may occur with improper use. Always follow common sense swimming practices with use of this product. Do not swim alone, or in bodies of water too deep or too hazardous for your abilities. Always swim in lifeguarded areas and with a buddy!
