“Over the Shoulder” is one of easiest mermaid poses because you get all the shock factor of ✨ MERMAID ✨ without ever having to put on your tail!
This pose is ideal for lazy days when you don’t want to your wear tail or for product photoshoots that need to feature your tail but not necessarily have you wearing it, such as a bikini shoot. Since the fluke is often a main focal point, this pose allows us to bring the viewer’s attention closer to our promoted product such as bikini bottoms, or in the case of this photo, my new hair color.
I like to begin my mermaid photoshoots with this simple pose as a quick and captivating way to chronicle my adventures.
In one shot, you can capture a beautiful behind-the-scenes POV of the location, as well as document your hair or makeup before getting wet, sandy, or otherwise altered by the elements. This photo was taken on the set of my first music video recording, right before diving in and filming- I love how it shows the boat, the tail used, and even my little hair braid peeking through.
TIPS: If you have long hair, move it aside, especially if you have a silicone tail (the two are super sticky).
Lift and support the fluke as you move the tail body on your shoulder, and remember that this pose is for a photo, not how you should carry your tail regularly. Adjust tail to hang at desired length and be sure to show off that beautiful fluke.
Try it with a friend and see how your tails compliment each other!
I’ve always loved how my pink tail pops next to Vero Beach Mermaid‘s teal tail, pictured above. Give it a try! Grab a friend or two and you’ll have an astounding mermaid pic that is totally #friendshipgoals!
