Whenever humans ask about my tail I let them know: Finfolk Productions makes the most beautiful, realistic mermaid tails money can buy! From fabric to silicone, and even a hybrid in between, Finfolk Productions has consistently released innovative mermaid tail designs that merfolk can’t get enough of!

Sorry Kiddos, this one is for the Adults!

A note on sizing before we begin: Finfolk Productions is an adult mermaid tail company, meant for both the hobbyist and the professional. While I faintly remember Finfolk creating a children’s-sized silicone mermaid tail in the past, these are typically adult mermaid tails. Reasons for that being: silicone tails cost thousands of dollars, silicone has no growing room for a child, and these tails are quite heavy compared to a child’s fabric tail, requiring controlled strength when maneuvering both in and out of water. I have never seen Finfolk create a “Mythic Tail” for a child, however, you could DIY your own by purchasing Finfolk’s resin scales and sewing them to a kid’s fabric tail. And lastly, Finfolk’s fabric “Signature” and “Discovery” tail lines are both meant for adults, however, Finfolk commented this on the matter: “Discovery tails are only offered in adult sizes with an adult sized monofin right now, however confident teen swimmers who already wear junior size clothing and adult shoe sizes may comfortably use our discovery tails under the supervision of an adult”

Finfolk Productions Custom Silicone Mermaid Tail

I am SO lucky to own a custom designed, full silicone mermaid tail by Finfolk Productions- as you’ll soon learn, these are rather hard to come by. 

Finfolk custom silicone tails are made to your design specifications and to fit your body measurements. You can give the team a general color scheme to work with or send them a full mock up and they will bring your design to life! They have several fluke designs and fin options to choose from and they are extremely talented painters! You can ask for striping, spots, waist blending, scale tipping, and more. How to buy a Custom Silicone Mermaid Tail from Finfolk Productions

Finfolk Productions has an infamous waitlist for silicone tails, but you would count yourself lucky if you were on it- new slots haven’t opened in years! The reason simply being, each tail is a work of art, and there is only a small team of artists behind ALL of these gorgeous tails! Silicone tails are a labor of love, from sculpting molds and pouring silicone, to airbrushing and hand painting the details. Remember there are humans behind these tails, wearing heavy PPE & standing for hours on end. Sometimes these humans need a break or a vacation, too! In addition to health and labor, weather also plays a role in the timing of tail production. Due to the scale of these projects, weather conditions have to be just right for pouring, curing & painting silicone. 

A message from Finfolk, “In order to allow us to work through our current production list, we are not accepting any new silicone tail orders at this time. The best way to keep track of when we will be opening up Silicone Tail production again is to join the Pod Squad OR to join our Mailing List.”

Mythic Hybrid Mermaid Tail

My  “Mythic” Tail has lived up to its name, as this hybrid tail type is now retired. Finfolk Mythic Tails have a neoprene body with a silicone fluke. These tails come in predetermined sizes ranging from XS to 5XL, in body size, and are attached to flukes with “finis shooter” monofins ranging from M to XXL. The body is covered in shiny resin “Mythic Scales”, which are also sold separately for your own DIY mermaid projects!

How to buy a Mythic Mermaid Tail from Finfolk Productions

Mythic Mermaid tails are currently retired, and we don’t know when Finfolk will bring them back- if at all. What we do know is that they used to sell these tails in collections of up to 6 designs at a base price. Fin additions, fluke upgrades, and custom paint jobs cost extra. These tails take a LONG time to produce, as rows and rows of resin scales have to be hand sewn to cover each tail body. This is probably one of the main reasons why this tail was discontinued. If you want to buy a mythic mermaid tail today, your best bet would be a Buy, Sell, Trade Group on Facebook or even the Mernetwork Classifieds. 

Signature Fabric Mermaid Tail

Finfolk Signature fabric tails are designed to be the most beautiful, realistic fabric mermaid tails available! These swimmable fabric tails are created from 1mm, 4 way stretch scuba knit with sublimation printed designs that are realistically detailed and vibrant. Featuring highly desired, full sized Finfolk flukes, all fabric tails come with a durable vinyl monofin casing built inside of the tail. Monofins are easily installed, and rest inside of the casing secured by velcro, providing graceful flow and movement in the water. These tails will fit a variety of monofins up to the dimensions listed below. We recommend monofins with short, stiff blades such as the FINIS Shooter or Adult Mermaid Linden by Bodyglove monofin.

Finfolk Productions releases 6 new mermaid tail designs, 3-4 times per year! Some designs have variations, including fin upgrades or fluke upgrades that can affect the pricing. Follow @finfolkproductions on Instagram to stay in the know for the next fabric mermaid tail release. You can order on the Finfolk Productions website, but be sure to set an alarm – tails typically sell out within the first hour of the sale going live to the public. You can beat the rush by joining the Finfolk pod squad; this group gets a special password to access the sale an hour earlier than the general public, giving you the best shot at checking out with your dream design!

Discovery Mermaid Tail

Finfolk fabric tails are designed to be the most beautiful, realistic fabric mermaid tails available today! The Discovery tail has the same quality and feel that we love from the signature line, but with the convenience of no vinyl! Simply insert an Adult Mermaid Linden by Bodyglove monofin and you’re ready to swim!

The Discovery tail is perfect for new mermaids, traveling, fun swims with less drag, or for tail collectors who just gotta have them all. These swimmable fabric tails are all created from 1mm, 4 way stretch scuba knit with sublimation printed designs that are realistically detailed and vibrant.

How to buy a Discovery Mermaid Tail from Finfolk Productions

When Finfolk drops new Signature Mermaid Tails, they now release a matching line of Discovery Tails. These tails are typically made available until the next release, with a lesser risk of selling out before you can snag one! 

Tail of the Month

Introduced in 2021, Tail of the Month (TOTM) is a limited release of a single fabric tail design made available for an entire month. This design may come from a previous collection or it can be completely new! 

How to buy a Tail of the Month from Finfolk Productions

You can order this design as a Signature Tail or as a Discovery tail directly from their website without worrying about it selling out immediately. You typically have til the end of the month to place your order, however, some of their more popular designs have sold out before the end of month. If you see a design you like, be sure to checkout ASAP! Once the month is over, who knows how long that mermaid tail design will be locked away in the vault!
