When it comes to mermaid makeup, I prefer the KISS method,
Keep It Simple, Sweetie!
Of course I love sparkles and dramatic makeup for special photo shoots, but today I am going to share my Top 3 mermaid makeup essentials that I use for EVERY mermaid party & even most photoshoots, as well! Of course, they’re all waterproof!
Basic Mermaid Look
I love to accentuate my eyes with both eyeliner and mascara, as well as, add a pop of color to my lips with Lipsense lipgloss. These inexpensive products effectively mitigate that puffy, washed-out look humans get from extensive, makeup-free swimming!
1. I start my look with winged waterproof eyeliner.
Winged eyeliner gives the illusion of bigger eyes, and fuller/ longer lashes. I’ve been using Wet n Wild’s H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner for about 4 years now and am really happy with the results, especially for the price. I find the Felt Tip super easy to work with as it is flexible like a paintbrush and comes to a tiny point for detail work. I like to thinly line my top eyelid from the start of my lash line in the inner corner of my eye working toward the outer corner. From there I create a thick wing, reaching up & out towards the end of my eyebrow.
2. Next, I curl my lashes and hit ’em with waterproof mascara.
Applying top and bottom mascara opens your eyes and gives you long thick lashes. Real talk- I’ve been using COVERGIRL Lash Blast Volume Mascara since middle school. It’s my favorite applicator and I love the results. I’ve never experienced any running or flaking with this brand, in or out of the water, even with all day wear (though I will mention that I am not one to rub my eyes.) If you touch your eyes often, this is definitely a habit you’ll want to break as a mermaid!
Make that lip gloss pop with a wet mermaid shine!
My final mermaid makeup essential would have to be a waterproof lip color & gloss. I think it’s important to have a little color on your lip for photos and interactions, both under and above water to keep your features from getting washed out. I like to finish with gloss to give a wet shine for that super mermaid-y look! Bonus: On cold photoshoots the lip color will hide your blue lips! When I first began my mermaid journey, I was introduced to Lipsense by XYZ. She sent me product in exchange for my review, and I fell in love! She helped me choose my color- I went with Caramel Apple, but there are so many other gorgeous shades! Lipsense has a two-step application: 1. Apply color stain 2. apply lipgloss top coat. While swimming for extended periods, the gloss does tend to come off, but the color will last full parties!
